Proximity detection systems help to make mines safer and more productive

The Booyco Electronics Asset Management System allows data to be analysed for patterns which indicate unsafe behaviour

Using proximity detection system (PDS) hardware and monitoring devices to centralise information, can help mines to become safer and more productive, asserts PDS solutions company Booyco Electronics.

The company explains that a single source of information on a mine’s assets enables the identification of patterns of unsafe behaviour. The Booyco Electronics Asset Management System (BEAMS) is designed to provide a central information hub for a mine’s PDS assets and includes a software suite that is a web-based application used on a database to link PDS hardware products and the monitoring devices. This provides a single source of data that can give greater insight into relevant aspects of mining operations, helping to raise levels of safety and productivity in the workplace.

“The real achievement of BEAMS is that it allows the data from our Booyco CWS, Booyco PDS or Booyco CXS to be analysed for patterns which indicate unsafe behaviour,” says Booyco Electronics CEO Anton Lourens. “Customers can then design an appropriate intervention to prevent any further occurrences.”

In addition, measuring the working environment and interactions allows for risks and inefficiencies to be actively reduced and managed, helping to boost productivity as a result. BEAMS can also integrate with the lamp room management systems in underground mines by helping to safety equipment such as lamps, self-contained self-rescuers and gas instrumentation, ensuring legal compliance with lamp room requirements.
