Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies has signed off on a hot-rolled coil safeguard duty, which will offer further protection to South Africa’s primary steel producer ArcelorMittal South Africa. However, he has also promised a new incentive for the downstream industry, which is equally under pressure. Details of the scheme are to be announced soon by Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel.
