Promise of power protection in unstable conditions

The APC Easy UPS 1 Ph Online UPS from Schneider Electric

Unstable electricity conditions are seen as key considerations for small to medium-sized businesses in developing markets such as South Africa.

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit has been developed to handle a wide voltage range and inconsistent power conditions, offering businesses the assurance that critical equipment can be protected from unstable power conditions.

APC by Schneider Electric has released its Easy UPS 1 Ph Online UPS unit which promises protection for businesses’ electrical assets against high fluctuations in power. The device features power conditioning to protect loads from surges, spikes and lightning.

The company asserts that its UPS unit generates clean power, free from voltage spikes and drops, owing to its double conversion online technology which ensures a consistently high level of power quality. Any disturbances on the distribution waveform are regenerated by means of the zero-transfer time alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) then DC to AC conversion process. The battery is only used as a back-up source. The UPS also features ECO Mode which by-passes the usual UPS internal electrical components in good power conditions, in an effort to achieve high operating efficiency without sacrificing protection.

In addition, the unit offers fast recharging time, reaching 90% of its charging capacity within four hours. It also features emergency mode, which will shut off all power to connected equipment in an emergency situation. The hardware also includes a liquid crystal display with adjustable settings for real-time access to device status and diagnostics.
