PRASA fires group CEO

PRASA CEO Zolani Matthews

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has decided to terminate the employment of its group CEO Zolani Kgosietsile Matthews, following the outcome of an investigation.

The investigation was intended to establish whether Matthews deliberately failed to disclose material information to PRASA in respect of his dual citizenship.

His contract was conditional upon him obtaining favourable security clearance, but the State Security Agency has declined to issue Matthews with security clearance.

During the investigation by senior counsel, Matthews was given an opportunity to present his version of the issue, with a legal representative present, but the findings of the investigation were nonetheless adverse against him, PRASA says.

PRASA will therefore start a process to recruit a new CEO.
