Officials from the US Department of Commerce, together with those from Internal Revenue Service, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Illinois State Police raided Caterpillar’s corporate headquarters in Peoria, Illinois, on March 2, reportedly seeking evidence related to allegations that the group shifted profits to Geneva, Switzerland, to avoid US taxes. The raid came only a week after President Donald Trump declared, “I love Caterpillar”, during a White House meeting with American manufacturers, attended by Caterpillar chairperson Doug Oberhelman.
