BOSCH GBH 12-52 D PROFESSIONAL The new Bosch rotary hammer features a 1 700 W electrical motor that produces 19 J of single-impact energy
Power tools company Bosch launched the GBH 12-52 D Professional rotary hammer last month, claiming it to be the most powerful rotary hammer from Bosch to date.
Bosch South Africa training manager Peter du Bruyn says the new hammer features a 1 700 W electrical motor, which produces 19 J of single-impact energy for drilling and chiselling applications.
The rotary hammer employs several metal components to ensure and extended life span, as well as glass-fibre components, which comprise reinforced polyamide. This helps the machine withstand harsh conditions while allowing for flexibility so that it does not crack and become brittle.
An automatic switch enables the operator to either lock or unlock the chiselling mode; the lock mode enables the operator to disengage from the machine during the chiselling mode.
There is also a built-in overload clutch to prevent equipment from jamming when it comes into contact with reinforcing elements. It also protects the operator from possible injury, as the clutch engages when it detects reinforcing, thereby ceasing the operation of the machine and also mitigating damage to the machine, says Du Bruyn.
Further, a soft-start function enables the rotary hammer to begin drilling or chiselling at slow speeds and to gradually build up to maximum power, preventing it from unwanted movement during starting procedures.
A speed controller also enables the operator to adjust the speed of the rotary hammer up to 220 rpm.
To increase operator comfort, Bosch features heavy rubberised grips and side handles, which eases vibration.
The Bosch GBH 12-52 D Professional also features a service display, which indicates degradation in the service life of the machine’s brushes. “This display indicates when a brush service is required, but substantial life might still remain in the brushes, enabling the operator to finish the day’s job before sending it in for a service,” says Du Bruyn.
He concludes that the Bosch GBH 12-52 D Professional, with modern aesthetics, is an upgrade of the company’s old 11 kg unit.
