Electricity utility Eskom is not only struggling financially and to meet demand, but is also battling to ensure payment from certain municipalities, as well as from its direct customers in areas such as Soweto. But there is also ongoing demand for new connections in areas such as this informal settlement, west of Johannesburg. It’s a balance that’s becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.
