Project Description
The floating dock project represents Initiative 7 of Operation Phakisa – a government-drive programme aimed at unlocking the potential of South Africa’s Ocean Economy.

The project entails the upgrades to the existing quay and the extensive deepening of the berth from 8.5 m to a planned depth of 18 m.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create 1 000 direct and indirect jobs.

Value
The project forms part of TNPA’s R4.4-billion capital investment plans announced in 2017 and will cost about R1.4-billion to implement.

Duration
The project is slated for April 2022.

Latest Developments
The Department of Environmental Affairs has given the TNPA’s Port of Richards Bay its approval to build its long-awaited floating dock infrastructure.
