PMI South Africa

PMI South Africa is the local chapter of the Project Management Institute, the world’s leading and largest not for profit membership association for project management. PMI South Africa is the oldest continually operating PMI chapter outside North America, chartered in 1982.

Our mission is to advance project management careers and the profession in South Africa, by using the global resources of PMI and local professional capabilities of our volunteers to deliver valued member services and to create local individual, organisational and societal impact. In addition, we look for collaboration with institutions to bring about the positive impact of project management across society.

Our membership is dynamic, currently 900 plus, growing 33% since 2017, and includes active project, programme and portfolio management practitioners and academics, working in diverse industries and services in the public, private and nongovernmental organisation sectors.

The chapter operates nationally with branches in Cape Town, Durban and the Johannesburg/Pretoria areas, with a growing network of activities coordinators in the Eastern Cape and extending to other provinces in the near future.

“The South Africa chapter views the use of projects and project management as a strategic choice and approach to create value and benefits, relevant to all sectors, industries and services. Successful projects can help bring about positive business, organisation and societal change, innovation and transformation. They can enable effective responses to our constantly changing environment. But this requires professional project management. This can only come about by education, training and experience with certification to ensure the highest standards.

Through our unique global PMI resources and local added value, we prepare our members to be project, business, organisation and societal leaders,” says executive director Dr Lynn A Keeys.
