Nelson Mandela Bay Maritime Cluster chairperson and PE port senior operations manager Faisal Sultan
Transnet National Ports Authority has announced that Port of Port Elizabeth senior operations manager Faisal Sultan has been appointed chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Bay Maritime Cluster.
He will lead a team of seven members in providing strategic direction to achieve the cluster’s vision, which is to be a pioneering maritime cluster model for Africa, involving the participation of the ocean sciences, the ocean business community, government and its agencies, and civil society in responsible ocean governance.
The cluster members are Derek Zimmerman, representing Rand International Capital; Jeremy Dobbin, representing the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber; Mohammed Riedau de Maine, representing the Eastern and Southern Cape Pelagic Association; Lusanda Fibi, from Iya Group; John Lawlor, from East Cape Business Development Advisory Board; and Tasneem De Maine, from Solutions 2 Go.
The cluster’s key objectives include promoting sectorial development through the expansion of marine subsectors such as the marine tourism and leisure subsector; marine manufacturing and boat building, marine energy supply and production particularly for offshore oil and gas and commercial fishing; and enhancing enterprise development through the promotion of small businesses, women and the provision of funding.
Additionally, the cluster aims to develop human resources through education, skills development, training and knowledge development and support the freight and logistics activities of the ports of Port Elizabeth and Ngqura.
The cluster welcomes individuals, organisations and enterprises with a direct or indirect interest in the ocean economy to become voluntary members.
