New silo measuring system simplifies monitoring and control

The Silo and Tank Optimiser from Shock Wave Engineering monitors stored content

A new cloud-based tank and silo monitoring system is said to be the first of its kind in South Africa, providing real-time, remote access on a mobile phone or computer.

The Silo and Tank Optimiser from Shock Wave Engineering measures and reports the amount of content in a silo or tank and the rate at which the content is expended. It also predicts when the silo should be filled, avoiding the over-filling of silos or empty silos.

The system is particularly useful for the following sectors:

The system allows the supplier to monitor and plan deliveries without relying on clients to perform daily checks on various silos and tanks.

The objective of the system is to enable suppliers to deliver content more efficiently and cost-effectively. Clients are given 24/7 access to an online record of silo levels, giving an accurate measurement of contents and a means of monitoring and managing shrinkage.

The system is powered by photovoltaic cells, which means that it is not affected by power interruptions and will not be susceptible to damage from power surges.

In addition, the optimiser can be fitted with a Remote Repair feature that enables Shock Wave Engineering to remotely identify and isolate faulty components. The company highlights that this feature allows the system to be reconfigured and repaired within three hours of a reported fault.
