New-generation Sentient hand-held unit for gas detection

GAS DETECTION SYSTEMS This instrument was developed by Booyco Electronics, specifically to improve safety in any confined spaces

The new-generation Ingress Protection 68- rated Sentient handheld unit is widely regarded as the most cost effective, sophisticated and low maintenance gas detection device in the mining industry.

This instrument, available from mine safety equipment supplier Booyco Electronics, was developed specifically to improve safety in underground mining and in any confined spaces in surface plants.

“It is the first multigas instrument in South Africa that also measures relative humidity as a standard offering,” the company enthuses.

The Sentient is also available with Fire Patrol capabilities, distinguishable by its bright red seal, as well as the Fire Patrol Sentient, which is inserted into outstations located in specific areas underground, where it records dates, time, gas and humidity measurements.

The equipment is connected through a network to a downloading server, where specialised Booyco Electronics Asset Management System (BEAMS) software enables various reports to be generated, such as detailed information on gas detected in the underground environment, peak values, time weighted average values, preshift tested values, calibration reports and “no movement reports”.

The downloading network configuration is capable of gathering information from up to 500 Sentient devices in a matter of minutes.

BEAMS software is Web-based, making it possible to email these reports to relevant personnel automatically.

The low maintenance Sentient has no buttons, instead it has an innovative “tap” sensor that ensures that the instrument remains watertight.

Another unique feature, the company enthuses, is a drop protection capability that automatically switches the sensor off if the instrument is dropped, reducing pos- sible maintenance time and costs.
