New generation centrifugal air blowers announced

21st May 2019

A new generation of magnetic-bearing turbo blowers has been introduced to the market. Magnetic bearing technology uses magnets to hold the motor rotor in position during operation and at rest.

The oil-free turbo blower features a unique design and the ability to withstand process changes. Its magnetic bearing technology is aimed at ensuring safe operation in any environment and uses the magnetic force to adjust and control the position of the shaft.

The magnetic bearing turbo technology of Atlas Copco’s generation ZB 5 – 6 VSD+ does not use air from the system to operate the machine, which means that the machine can operate independently from downstream conditions. In addition, the new technology eliminates the need for a power bank, in the case of a power failure.

Maintaining a low air-intake temperature and minimising resistance to the air passing through each component, optimises air-flow and reduces electricity consumption. The undisturbed and direct connection from the ambient air to the impeller means that the air temperature between the ambient air and the intake air is equal.

According to oil-free air division business line manager JC Lombard, Atlas Copco’s ISO 8573-1 class zero certified turbo blowers and components are used in a number of applications in the wastewater treatment, pneumatic conveying, food and beverage and flue gas desulphurization industries.
