Construction equipment supplier HPE Africa says its new crawler excavator series is suited to earthmoving applications in South Africa’s mining and construction environments.

The R210 Smart Plus crawler excavator series was introduced to HPE Africa’s portfolio in May, with advanced design features over its predecessor, the 210 Smart series.

“Its engine is manufactured to perform in heat, humidity and dust conditions without compromising productivity,” says HPE Africa MD Ross Collard.

He adds that noteworthy features of the new series include fuel efficiency, high productivity, safe and smooth operation, as well as being easy to control.

“With the addition of the new eco-mode, users now have a wider choice of operating modes suitable for specific tasks and to further improve fuel efficiency.”

Other features that contribute to lower fuel consumption include the breaker mode, which automatically sets the pump flow to an optimal level, and a fuel saving kit for accurate monitoring.

Additionally, the auto deceleration system prevents fuel losses by reducing engine revolutions per minute during nox-load conditions.

The electrohydraulic control system ensures precise flow at various workloads for optimum productivity and the open centre design of the main control valve provides fast response and maximum efficiency.

“Hyundai’s advanced computer-aided power optimisation technology and hydraulic flow summation contribute to faster cycle times for greater output and improved performance,” adds Collard.

The arm regeneration system, which has been designed for smooth operation and to prevent cavitation, further improves fuel efficiency and performance.

The series boasts a bucket digging force of about 15 500 kgf and an arm crowd force of about 12 000 kgf.

The water-cooled, four-cycle, six-cylinder, direct-injection turbocharged engine is manufactured for optimum performance in challenging conditions.

The series has specialised advanced steel plates to reinforce the front structure, a strengthened undercarriage and a forged ring body.

Further, the reinforcement of the bucket link allows for greater bucket dig and arm crowd forces, while the enhanced reinforcement of the idler frame ensures dependable operation in tough operating conditions.

T

he series includes an air pre-cleaner that removes dirt and debris from air before it enters the air filter, an anti-restart function to protect the starter from damage during engine operation, as well as dust- and waterproof electrical connectors.

A counterbalance valve works as a hydrostatic brake and prevents the accidental roll-down of the machine, while a boom-and-arm holding system stops attachments from drifting against gravity.

These machines are also fitted with an automatic engine overheat and warm-up function, a battery disconnect switch, a lower belly guard and a tank safety cover.

A larger cab with 360º visibility, adjustable seats and additional lamps and mirrors offers improved safety and greater comfort on site.

The

user-friendly instrument panel makes it easy to control critical systems such as hydraulic oil and coolant temperature, fuel levels, self-diagnostic checks and maintenance management.

“The machines all offer advanced technologies for improved performance and precise control in diverse industries, including arduous environments,” he concludes.
