Mobile shredding for secure data destruction

21st November 2019

Reducing risks related to the disposal of information technology (IT) assets has become a major concern for many companies.  With increasing data breaches across the globe, onsite data destruction is fast becoming the preferred method for IT asset disposal.

Data destruction specialists aim to help companies to proactively manage digital data in so-called live environments, as well as on retired assets.

A portable, onsite data destruction plant that can perform hard drive shredding at a company’s premises, is now available. The plant is said to be able to carry out the physical shredding of 300 hard drives, 500 data tapes, Universal Serial Bus or memory sticks and up to 400 mobile phones per hour. It destroys and disposes of electronic media devices with the intention of rendering the devices worthless and unable to be used for data recovery.

The shredding plant from Xperien offers an onsite facility that is compliant with the Protection of Personal Information Act and provides companies with degaussing and data destruction services.

Additional services such as refurbishment, redeployment, resale and recycling are also available. The company states that a key advantage of its mobile facility is that it eliminates the need to provide a chain of custody for data, as the destruction of data is carried out at the client’s premises.

The company is environmental management system ISO 14001:2004 and ISO9001 accredited for refurbishment and redistribution of redundant IT assets and equipment. It also complies with certain international standards and has British standards institution accreditation.

The certification confirms that the company operates a quality management system that complies with requirements of ISO 9001:2015 for the collection and disposal of IT assets and equipment.
