Locally made chainsaw protective pants available

Husqvarna chainsaw pants and safety equipment

Personal protective equipment gear such as helmets and gloves are commonly used when operating a chainsaw, but protective pants are not often available, even though studies reveal that just under half of all chainsaw-related injuries involve the user’s legs.

Husqvarna, a global supplier of outdoor power products, has introduced a new addition to its range of protective gear – the Husqvarna chainsaw pants.

The company says the locally-made garment represents its dedication to safety and its commitment to supporting local industry.  Husqvarna South Africa MD Pieter Smuts says that the chainsaw pants were a “passion project’ for him and that Husqvarna South Africa purposely chose to use local manufacturers. “South Africans are talented, resourceful, innovative and our new chainsaw pants epitomise our faith in the synergy between innovation and local ingenuity."

The pants are designed for safety, protection and comfort. The garment is certified Class 1 – 20M/S, and can withstand chainsaw speeds of up to 20 metres a second. The Husqvarna chainsaw pants meet the ISO 11393-2 international standard and are designed for use by both homeowners and professionals in forestry, arboriculture, farming, and green space management. Tailored sizing, ranging from waist size 77 to 132, aims to ensure a custom fit, for maximum flexibility and comfort.

Constructed from flame-retardant and acid-repellent materials, the pants provide protection against chainsaw-related hazards and environmental risks. In addition, the water-resistant properties of the material mean that it can be used in a variety of demanding conditions.

The pants are available through certified Husqvarna dealers or directly from the company’s website.
