There is grave peril in forecasting any improvement to the loadshedding outlook, as President Cyril Ramaphosa found recently when Eskom declared Stage 6 days after he suggested in his State of the Nation Address that the worst was over. Likewise, the credibility of Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramagopa’s message of a marginal improvement in Eskom’s energy availability factor was undermined by Stage 4. For those South Africans who can afford it, solutions to their power supply grief are being sought elsewhere.
