Name of the Project
Kesses solar generation facility.

Location
Near Eldoret, in the Rift Valley region of Kenya.

Project Owner/s
Private Infrastructure Development Group, the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund, in partnership with the Standard Bank Group acting through Standard Bank of South Africa Limited, Stanbic Bank Kenya and its project partner Alten Kenya Solarfarms.

Project Description
The project entails the construction of a 40 MW solar farm.

All the output from Kesses will be sold to State-owned power utility Kenya Power and Lighting Company on a 20-year, take-or-pay power purchase agreement. 

Potential Job Creation
The project will create up to 400 construction jobs and 15 permanent jobs during operations.

Capital Expenditure
$87-million, including a loan from the  Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund for  $35-million over a 15-year term.

Planned Start/End Date
Construction of the plant was completed in June 2023.

Latest Developments
The solar plant is now operational.
