SPACIOUS TRAVEL Kingsmead College recently invested in a large Iveco bus to better accommodate learners transported for sports and cultural events

Commercial vehicles, off-road trucks and vehicles manufacturer Iveco recently handed over an Iveco Afriway 65-seater bus to Kingsmead College, a leading girls’ school in Rosebank, Johannesburg.

The donation comes as part of Kingsmead College’s ‘Bus Project’, launched in 2015 to raise funds to buy a new bus. Kingsmead College headmistress Lisa Kaplan explains that, many activities at Kingsmead take place away from the school premises, which means that learners are transported with the school’s existing 22-seater bus. However, inadequate space made it necessary to buy a larger bus to accommodate the 920 learners.

“The unreliability of certain transport operators prompted the decision to invest in our own vehicle . . . This year, we were able to research the market and find the most suitable vehicle to transport our girls to any event, reliably and in safety,” says Kaplan.

She adds that, after much deliberation, the Iveco Afriway was selected.

The Iveco Afriway is built locally at the Iveco plant, in Rosslyn, Gauteng. The Afriway ensures the comfort of learners in the passenger compartment, owing to its fitment of two roof-mounted Citi vent-forced draft ventilation air flow units.

Provision is also made in the Afriway to accommodate a large amount of luggage required for the school’s sporting events, with the inclusion of underfloor through-type luggage rockers within the wheel base of the bus, as well as in the passenger saloon interior parcel racks.

The Afriway has a six-cylinder Euro 3 diesel engine with manual transmission.
