Irena to launch latest version of data platform

As resource assessment continues to be a challenge in renewable energy project development processes, the extensive research into resource data and improved modelling approaches has led to the development of better high-resolution resource data, the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) says.

Irena will launch its Global Atlas for Renewable Energy 4.0 on May 31, which serves as a free online resource data repository and assessment platform.

The platform is aimed at assisting policymakers and investors in searching for and identifying renewable energy opportunities, as well as for the public to better understand the potential of renewables in any region.

Irena has incorporated new functions and data on the platform’s 4.0 version, which will enhance users’ experience, with 800 revised and updated renewable resource maps covering all technologies.

The maps come with supplementary data to enable effective mapping of energy potential and the identification of advanced renewable energy sites.

Irena will, during a launch briefing on May 31 discuss how users can search for maps and download selected datasets, such as protected areas, roads or transmission infrastructure, for offline use.
