A cloud-to-cloud interoperability system with a choice of connectivity and device management, has been announced.
The Internet of Things (IoT) has extended Internet connectivity to a wide range of devices, objects and applications and it is driving industrial digital transformation. This digital transformation has led to a greater need for interoperability or interconnection between systems and applications, whereby information is exchanged and shared to allow diverse systems to work together. This interoperability is especially important in cloud computing, which gives users simultaneous access to systems and data storage.
SAP has unveiled the cloud-to-cloud interoperability of its Leonardo IoT technology, with Microsoft Azure IoT Hub. The technology aims to bring data together with business processes by embedding IoT into line-of-business solutions. Business applications are thus enhanced with IoT technology, leading to the possible development of new business models, based on data generated by the IoT solutions.
The technology uses data-driven intelligence and operational context from machines, products, supply chains, consumers and partners. Based on specific business needs, it can be used to combine IoT data with business process data to enable IoT-embedded business applications, extend existing applications and build new intelligent IoT solutions.
In addition, users are offered the possibility of using Microsoft Azure IoT Hub as the connectivity and device management layer for IoT telemetry data, which is relayed to SAP Leonardo IoT.
There is also an option to extend support for business processes locally on top of Microsoft Azure IoT Edge runtime. Essential business function modules based on SAP Leonardo IoT Edge are also planned to run in containers on Microsoft Azure IoT Edge, aimed at reducing dependency on latency, bandwidth and connectivity.
