Interactive lighting solution attracts interest from various projects

SHUFFLE LIGHTING COLUMN The different features that the Shuffle incorporates is aimed at connecting people to their social environments

Since the launch of its Shuffle one-pole lighting column in October, luminaires manufacturer Beka Schréder has received a number of enquiries for various projects at universities, playgrounds and fitness parks.

Beka Schréder marketing manager Sibusiso Skosana tells Engineering News that the company based the concept of the Shuffle on current urbanisation trends, as it believes that, for cities to evolve effectively, the pillars of sustainable development – economic growth, social development and environmental protection – have to be managed.

Owing to this, the company believes that the Shuffle one-pole concept is a platform for managing living spaces and is its most ‘human’ solution to date, as the Shuffle can integrate up to five different modules in a column to suit the specific needs of its environment and infrastructure.

Beka Schréder product development manager Daniel Kasper explains that cities currently have different requirements for how spaces are used and shared. For example, different poles are used for lighting systems, surveillance cameras and loud speakers in urban areas.

“The different features that the Shuffle incorporates are aimed at connecting people to their social environments. It also aims to reduce the amount of outdoor equipment cluttering public squares and to make them safer and convivial,” he says.

Beka Schréder’s development of the concept of having one pole that can have different modules attached to it, each module changeable or replaceable, minimises the material needed in spaces and lowers the carbon footprint of an installation.

The modern interface of the Shuffle creates added value for outdoor living spaces and the company is continuously developing modules that create the best conditions to make people truly feel at home in public areas.

Each of the modules that follow are interchangeable module attachments that can be fitted on to the Shuffle lighting column for the specific needs of the user and the environment.

The lighting provided by the Shuffle incorporates light-emitting diode technology and a range of photometries adapted for various applications, such as roads, streets, public squares, pedestrian crossings, footpaths and architectural illumination to ensure all lighting requirements are met.

Its control systems achieve energy savings of up to 85% and are easily integrated into autonomous or interoperable networks – managing, monitoring, controlling and metering a group of luminaires installed in a typical environment. One controller can command all the lighting modules of a Shuffle and propose different scenarios for each module.

Available Modules
The light ring module incorporates colour identification and ambiance, which can also be a useful tool to manage living spaces. For example, in flashing mode, it can guide people in the right direction in an emergency situation. It could also indicate if an electric vehicle (EV) charger is being used – the Shuffle incorporates an EV charging station module as a result of EV’s becoming more affordable.

The wireless local area network module incorporates two wireless Internet versions: campus scale for shopping centres or business complexes as an extension of an existing network, and urban scale for city applications so that multiple users can connect simultaneously. The bandwidth can be divided to assign a part to city operators, with the remaining WiFi offered to the public so that people can remain connected.

Further, the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera module has a superior compact CCTV camera, with night vision efficiency, high brightness compensation and advanced event detections, which helps to reduce crime and increase public safety.

The loudspeakers also constitute a module, with the integrated sound system used for advertising, public service announcements, music broadcasting or local radio stations for specific events, or simply to enhance a convivial atmosphere in open spaces.

The Shuffle’s EV charging station offers an integrated solution for E-mobility. With more charging points available, mobility will become greener and the air in the city purer, notes the company.

“With easy fixtures, rotatable modules and plug-in connections, the Shuffle is a very handy and flexible tool. Choose your combination, attach the module, plug in the connectors and the Shuffle is ready to enhance your environment,” concludes Skosana.
