Insulated panel van keeps cold chain on the move

A Cape Town-based company dealing in fruit products, juices, dry ingredients and frozen products, has had the interior of a panel van delivery vehicle fully insulated.

The idea to insulate the panel van was borne out of an effort to improve the maintenance of the cold chain for short distance deliveries, as an alternative to using the company’s 1-ton truck. Using the smaller van allows for potential savings in fuel costs and future vehicle replacements. The new insulation is said to ensure the transportation of frozen goods at temperatures below 0 °C.

The panel van was insulated by Serco Industries, which specialises in the design and manufacturing of insulated and dry freight truck bodies and trailers.

Family-owned company, Frut, is said to be pleased with the end result and is considering expanding its fleet of insulated vehicles.

With its headquarters in Somerset West and a branch in Durbanville, the company sells ingredients for smoothies and shakes as well as frozen fruit, protein powders, seeds, nuts, jam concentrates and freshly squeezed juices, among other goods.

The company has two retail stores and also offers home deliveries through online sales.
