IN THE CROSSFIRE

South Africa’s school children are likely to be the real losers unless government and the teacher unions can breach the impasse on the annual national assessments. Both sides have good arguments. But, in the end, the assessments are required to offer better visibility of the education system’s current strengths and weaknesses – visibility that can be used, hopefully, to make the necessary improvements. All efforts should be made to place the interests of our children first.
