The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) on Monday announced the appointment of Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng as acting chairperson, effective immediately.

Modimoeng, appointed following a special council meeting, will remain in the acting position until a permanent successor to former chairperson Rubben Mohlaloga is appointed.

Mohlaloga was removed as chairperson after he was convicted on charges of fraud and money laundering and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
