Ibhubesi gas project, offshore South Africa

Name and Location
Ibhubesi gas project, offshore South Africa.

Client
Sunbird Energy and PetroSA.

Project Description
An independent reserves certification of the Ibhubesi gas project has delivered proven reserves of 210-billion cubic feet. This volume of discovered gas is considered as a high-certainty of recovery and underpins Phase 1 of the Ibhubesi Gas project development plan.

The technical assessment confirms that the planned Phase 1 development of Ibhubesi can be achieved without the need for further exploration or appraisal drilling.

Latest Developments
The targeted production drilling programme planned for the Phase 1 development will provide further appraisal of the field and could enable the upgrading of 540-billion cubic feet of proven and probable reserves to the proven category. This will allow Sunbird to progressively upgrade the proven reserve and expand production from the field.

The independent verification of the high-certainty proven gas volumes and its ability to underwrite Phase 1 of the Ibhubesi gas project, along with the large proven and probable reserves, has encouraged Sunbird to move ahead with its partners into detailed engineering planning, gas sales negotiations and the approval process required to bring the project to commercialisation.
