Hudbay CEO resigns to head up Goldcorp

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Copper and zinc miner Hudbay Minerals CEO and president David Garofalo has resigned, following his appointment as president and CEO of fellow miner Goldcorp.

Hudbay has appointed COO Alan Hair to succeed Garofalo as president and CEO, effective January 1, 2016.

Goldcorp president and CEO Chuck Jeannes, who led Goldcorp since January 2007, would retire at the company's annual general meeting in April 2016.

Hair, who holds a degree in mineral engineering from the University of Leeds, in the UK, has held a number of senior leadership roles in business development and operations at Hudbay since 1996.

Hudbay is well prepared to continue the strategy of the past five years and to optimise the safety, environmental and cost performance of our three new mines in this challenging metals market. Hudbay will also continue to seek accretive growth opportunities that fit our strategic criteria,” commented chairperson Warren Holmes.
