Industry body Vinpro has advised that the hearing it was due to have in the Western Cape High Court against national government has been postponed to some time in the week of July 5.

The matter was initially set to be heard on July 2, after Vinpro filed an urgent interdict application on June 29.

Vinpro, which represents 2 600 wine grape producers and related businesses, wants government to lift the ban on the sale of wine in the Western Cape.

MD Rico Basson is of the view that provincial authorities ought to be empowered to determine what kind of alcohol restrictions are needed in each province.

South African Breweries has also approached the courts to have the latest liquor ban, announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on June 27, lifted.
