Climate change adaptation and green economy nonprofit GreenCape has selected ten finalists for the 2022 GreenPitch Challenge.

The ten green economy innovators will prepare to pitch their innovations to a panel of judges on May 5, at an event hosted by GreenCape in partnership with the City of Cape Town’s Invest Cape Town and The Business Hub.

The 2022 GreenPitch Challenge Top 10 finalists were chosen from about 150 inspiring entries.

In the pre-venture category, the finalists include innovators in electric mobility GoMetro’s Rudi Kriel, plastic alternatives MushNet Mycelium Packaging’s Warren Barnard, circular economy and food sharing solution Me2you’s Rich Sibusiso Hlatshwayo, wastewater treatment technology innovator Farai Dziike and Manhole Protector Grid’s Chris Nganga Kimaru.

The finalists in the pre-growth category include bio-economy NatUVcare’s Tshepo Mangoele, energy venture Plentify’s Jon Kornik, aquaponics franchise entrepreneur Luvo Gugwana, smart polymer manhole covers inventor Thulani Khumalo and circular economy locally manufactured mobile crushers entrepreneur Leslie Wallace.

“The Top 10 stand to win prizes to the value of about R400 000 sponsored by RMB, BioCiti Labs, LaunchLab, SAREBI  and Enlit Africa, with more to be confirmed.”

Further, a selection of entries that did not make Top 10 will be given the opportunity to apply for a learner management programme, facilitated by The Innovation Bridge Portal, GreenCape says.
