GREEN LETTER DAY

Deutsche Post’s last night flights transporting mail between northern and southern Germany took place in the early hours of March 28, ending a near 63-year airmail service that had operated since September 1961. The shift to road will result an 80% fall in carbon dioxide emissions on affected routes. The move is being facilitated by legislative reforms allowing the company to deliver 95% of domestic mail within three working days, instead of the previous stipulation that 80% of letters be delivered on the next working day.
