Consulting services firm Golder Associates has announced the start of the construction of what is set to be the first commercial offices at Waterfall Estate, in Midrand.

Skyscape Architects is designing a green building to achieve a four-star green rating by using sustainable green building and environment-friendly processes to ensure the building will be resource-efficient throughout its life.

The company will house 260 employ- ees at the offices and construction is scheduled for completion by December next year. Of the 5 500 m2 design, 40% comprises offices and 60% open-plan offices, as well as a training facility.

Golder Associates head of engineering services Francois Marais explains that the main office is located in Midrand, with other offices in Pretoria, and the selection process for the new offices includes consultations with the employees, as it is an employee-owned firm. The site was chosen based on Waterfall City’s planned facilities, which would benefit employees and clients because of its accessibility to the N1 highway and the Gautrain stations.

The Waterfall City development is estimated to cost R45-billion and spans 1 700 ha. It is forecast to be the largest single private-property development in South Africa.

It will house amenities for living, working and socialising, including a hospital, schools and hotels. There will be a functional central business district designed by Boogertman & Partners, which will include everything – from apartments to a shopping mall, office towers and a transport hub.
