There were already some concerns at the start of 2020 that the global economy was showing signs of slowing. With the outbreak of the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, however, the outlook has worsened considerably. Frontline sectors such as aviation and tourism are under extreme pressure, but it is becoming increasingly clear than no sector will be untouched by this viral wrecking ball, as the measures required to contain the outbreak will definitely have a negative impact on business and economic performance. For South Africa, the coronavirus has again pushed back any thoughts of an economic recovery.
