Global gold event taking place in SA

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY SAIMM will be co hosting this years World Gold 21 event in August

The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) has announced that, together with the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, it will be hosting the World Gold 2021 conference in August.

The conference will be held at the Misty Hills Conference Centre, in Johannesburg, on August 16 and 17.

Owing to the current challenging environment caused by the global pandemic, the conference has been converted to a hybrid event, providing for virtual and in-person attendance, enabling more optionality and flexibility to ensure that no-one misses out.

Attendees across SAIMM’s global community will be able to explore the latest emerging technologies and trends, hear industry-leading keynotes, access presentations and participate in interactive discussion groups.

For contact sessions, the organisers will adhere to strict Covid-19 protocol, ensuring delegates’ safety. The change in the operating model creates an opportunity to reach a bigger international audience through its being more accessible, flexible and affordable.

SAIMM says attendees should expect an exciting lineup of interesting papers addressing some of the challenges the gold mining industry faces such as lower grade resources, increasing refractoriness, environmental, social and corporate governance, gold price volatility and Covid-19.

The conference is also scheduled to reflect on issues such as brownfield gold exploration successes as well as future gold deposits.

Geometallurgy, sampling, mineral processing and extraction and refining techniques will also be addressed.

Further topics include overcoming operational challenges, rapid deployment plants, new technology, women in mining and mineral economics.

The topics will be presented by a variety of international and local experts using various virtual conferencing tools.

Prospective authors are invited to submit abstracts of their paper, extended abstracts or presentations, in English, and to indicate the topic under which the paper should be categorised.

Diamonds Conference SAIMM will also be hosting the 2021 Diamonds – Source to Use conference on June 9 and 10. The hybrid conference will be held virtually, and at the Canvas Riversands, in Fourways. The conference will cover the full spectrum of the diamond pipeline, from exploration through to sales and marketing. The 2021 conference, the eighth in the Diamonds – Source to Use series, will focus on advances in the mining and metallurgical aspects as well as many of the downstream and related industries. It intends to provide a forum for the dissemination of information relating to the latest tools and techniques applicable to all stages of the diamond industry, and is sponsored by local dense media ferrosilicon powders manufacturer DMS Powders and engineering consultancy SRK Consultants. Additional information for both the World Gold 2021 conference and the 2021 Diamonds – Source to Use conference is available on the SAIMM website.
