Generator sets unveiled

14th May 2019

A number of generator sets were on display at Middle East Electricity (MEE) 2019 in Dubai, where a new natural gas generator was unveiled.

The generator is designed to operate in extreme conditions, for a range of sectors, such as mining, manufacturing, shopping malls and hospitals and has a power density of up to 2.0 MW from a 78 ℓ engine.

The Cummins HSK78G series delivers an electrical efficiency up to 44.2% (50 Hz) and 43.5% (60 Hz) on a range of pipeline natural gasses down to 70 methane number. In addition, it has lower nitrogen oxide emissions down to 250 mg/Nm3 and is able to automatically adjust to variable-quality fuels. The generator delivers 2 110 kW of thermal output for heating, cooling or steam. Its compact design and remote monitoring contribute to the aim of lowering installation and operational costs.

A 2 250 kVA model was also on display at the MEE.  The C2250D5 cut-away generator is powered by the Cummins diesel QSK60 HPI engine. It is aimed at delivering reliable power with a fast response to load changes, specifically suited to the commercial, industrial and data center markets.

A medium-duty generator set (genset) with environment-friendly exhaust emissions, 50 °C cooling capability, low noise and high-power output per litre was also launched. The 4BTAA3.3-G14 Coolpac is designed for severe duty cycle applications.

In addition, a remote monitoring simulator was on display. The Digital Master Control 8000 is an automatic, distributed logic controller suitable for remote applications, allowing users to integrate and adapt to varying power needs. It is able to control diverse power sources such as solar, genset and wind. Remote access and monitoring allows users to securely access the control system and view up to 90 days of data logging.

A load management controller, which regulates loads on standby generators, was also on offer by Cummins for the light commercial building industry.
