Gas industry roads upgrades programme, Australia

Name of the Project
Gas industry roads upgrades programme.

Location
Northern Territory, Australia.

Project Owner/s
Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development.

Project Description
The project aims to unlock the considerable economic benefits of the Beetaloo basin for major gas projects.

The project includes a A$325 000 study for the development of a fully operational multimodal facility and rail terminal in the Northern Territory to meet the current and future growth needs of Tennant Creek and the Barkly region.

The study will explore the feasibility and options for proceeding with the multimodal facility through the investigation of land constraints, as well as the infrastructure requirements (road and essential services) of the facility and the site for a rail freight terminal for the future Mt Isa to Tennant Creek rail link to meet the needs of the surrounding region.

The facility can provide opportunities for industrial and logistics support to allow for the expansion of the agriculture, pastoral, mining and other industries, as well as improved interconnectivity to the future Mt Isa to Tennant Creek rail, existing Adelaide to Darwin rail, and the Stuart and Barkly highways.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to support more than 400 jobs.

Capital Expenditure
The project is being funded through the Roads of Strategic Importance initiative, in which the Australian government is investing A$4.6-billion to better connect not only regional businesses to local and international markets but also regional communities.

Planned Start/End Date
The development study is expected to start in early 2021 and be completed by the end of 2021.
