Fire protection workshops for professionals a success

TRAINING DoseTech offers extensive training on fire protection

Cape Town-based fire protection technology provider DoseTech last month hosted its third four-day course, the 2014 storage tank and associated facilities fire hazard management workshop, at coal miner Sasol’s Secunda fire training centre, in Mpumalanga.

DoseTech MD Michael Feldon tells Engineering News that UK-based fire and safety instructor Dr Niall Ramsden, an expert in oil, gas and petrochemicals, presented the workshop.

The aim of the workshop was to provide attendees with in-depth knowledge of all aspects of designing, assessing and controlling fire hazards in flammable-liquid storage tanks.

Sasol employees, fire responders, fire engineers, loss-prevention engineers and safety professionals, as well as health, safety and environmental protection agencies, attended the course.

Feldon says the workshop was a success. It covered, for example, how to assess and control fire- related risks in flammable-liquid storage tanks and associated facilities. Attendees were also introduced to all aspects of the US Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act (FSIA) of 2003 and they received guidance on performance standards, as well as on the testing and maintenance of different types of fire systems.
