Eskom continues with supply interruptions in North West

Eskom on Thursday said that unless defaulting municipalities meet its requirements of cash payments as negotiated, a written undertaking in the form of a council resolution that current accounts will be honoured going forward, and a payment plan for the arrears, it will continue to interrupt bulk electricity supply to those municipalities.

Earlier this week, it started interrupting bulk electricity supply in the North West, which is still ongoing.

“We are certain that we have gone beyond the prescribed processes by engaging various other stakeholders to create awareness of the planned electricity interruptions. In the end, we are compelled to resort to this step in consideration of Eskom’s financial sustainability,” said Eskom interim CEO Matshela Koko

The parastatal said it would continue to monitor the strict adherence to the payment plans and payment of current accounts of these municipalities, with any defaults resulting in the interruption of supply without further notice.
