Engen delivers blankets, food, water and roof sheeting to help support South Durban flood victims

As a company with deep roots in KwaZulu-Natal, Engen is immensely saddened by the devastating effects and the human tragedy of the recent floods in the province.

On Friday, 22 April Engen staff and members of the South Durban Community-Engen Joint Committee handed out food parcels, water, mattresses, blankets, and roof sheeting in the Engen refinery fenceline suburbs of Lamontville, Merebank, Wentworth and Umlazi.

Sykry Hassim, General Manager of Engen’s South Durban-based refinery, extended thoughts and prayers to those impacted by the tragic events.

“We hope our contribution brings some relief to vulnerable households as many families begin the long process of rebuilding their lives,” says Hassim.

Hassim adds that Engen is humbled to provide a helping hand to folk of the South Durban Basin.

“In this extraordinarily difficult time, Engen is cognisant of the fact that the government cannot provide solutions alone.

“As such, Engen is committed to stepping up, starting with paying special attention to the people in the communities in which we operate.”
