The credibility of the National Prosecuting Authority and the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shaun Abrahams, is at an all-time low following the institution and subsequent withdrawal of dubious fraud charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. Likewise, the Hawks unit of the South African Police Service has left few in doubt that there were odious political motivations behind both the fraud charges and the so-called South African Revenue Service rogue unit probes. New brooms are surely needed at both important institutions.
