Durban Container Terminal
Durban Container Terminal Pier 2 has reached stability as performance improvements gain traction, confirms Durban Terminals managing executive Earle Peters.
The terminal’s employees have collaborated with customers, academia and original-equipment manufacturers in response to challenges at the terminal.
For example, contracted equipment manufacturers have been on site assisting to ensure equipment reliability and availability, and will do so for the next seven years.
The terminal’s plans for the next 12 months include capital investment to acquire 45 haulers, four reach stackers and five empty container handlers, which will be commissioned for use in May this year.
The terminal will also acquire 20 straddle carriers for delivery by November.
Meanwhile, the Durban Container Terminal has partnered with the University of Pretoria on an outcomes-based programme to upskill employees, which will further improve operational performance at the terminal, including availability of spares and increased crane activity per hour.
