Denel launches project to develop regional aircraft

From Creamer Media in Johannesburg, this is the Real Economy Report. South African State-owned defence group Denel used the opportunity of the recent Africa Aerospace and Defence exhibition to launch a new aircraft project. Keith Campbell was there.

The project is being headed by two Denel group companies: Denel Aerostructures and Denel Aviation. The proposed new aircraft is currently being referred to as the SARA, an acronym for South African Regional Aircraft. Denel Aerostructures CEO Ismail Dockrat explains why the project is being launched.

Other news making headlines this week: Funding for student housing is a top priority for the Department of Higher Education and Training.

Statistics released at the end of 2012 by the Department of Higher Education and Training indicated a backlog of about 200 000 university beds. Since then, the department’s prime focus has been on student housing funding, with the National Treasury allocating R6-billion to the department for infrastructure funding from 2013 to 2015.
