DCD Protected Mobility

Gauteng-based DCD Protected Mobility is a wholly owned South African company and global leader in the design, manufacture and support of special-purpose tactical wheeled vehicles.

The company’s product range includes mobile landmine detection vehicles, including the Husky vehicle-mounted mine detector (VMMD) and the two-operator Husky, as well as armoured personnel carriers and utility vehicles, such as the Mountain Lion and the Springbuck.

The company, which was founded in 1911, also supplies renewal parts and provides servicing and maintenance. Its shareholders are Investec Bank, with a 45.7% stake, African Revival Investment Holding (36.9%), DCD management (16.4%) and other shareholders (1%).

DCD Protected Mobility’s factory, at 22 Monteer road, in Isando, on the East Rand, has a covered area of 22 000 m2.

The 285-employee company has the BS-OHSAS 1800:2007 health and safety certification as well as the BS-EN ISO 14001:2004 environmental certification under its belt and has also been awarded the SABS 9001:2008 quality management accreditation.

The company’s recent major contracts include the supply of eight VMMD systems to the US government, six VMMD systems to the Australian government, eight Springbuck vehicles to the Nigerian police force, six two-operator Husky vehicles to the Spanish government and four two-operator Husky vehicles to the Turkish government.
