Daimler Truck Southern Africa (DTSA) will have six Fuso eCanters in South Africa for customer trials by the end of June, says DTSA sales and marketing VP Maretha Gerber.

The small, fully electric truck has already been homologated, she adds.

DTSA also plans to extend its battery electric portfolio with the arrival of the larger Mercedes-Benz eActros by the end of the year.

Three units will arrive, with the vehicle still to be homologated – and then approved for use in the South African market by standards authorities.

“We aim to start selling the eCanter and eActros in South Africa in 2024,” says Gerber.

DTSA in April opened its new head office in Centurion in a R200-million investment into the country.

The group also spent R20-million on upgrading its truck assembly plant in East London, in the Eastern Cape.
