The Toyota Corolla Cross has been named as the 2022 Car of the Year (COTY) by the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ).

Midsize Category: Mercedes Benz C-Class
Performance Category: Volkswagen Golf GTI
New-energy Category: Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid
Adventure Sports-Utility Vehicle Category: Toyota Landcruiser 300
Double Cab 4 X 4 Category: Nissan Navara
Jurors’ Excellence Award: Mercedes Benz C-Class
Motor Enthusiasts Choice: Peugeot 208
The Budget and Premium categories did not have any 2022 contenders.
Introduced in 2021, the Jurors’ Excellence Award considers only the raw scoring of the jurors without automated scoring factors.
The overall winner includes additional scoring criteria, such as sales, segment share and specification adjusted pricing.
The South African COTY trophy has been awarded since 1986.
