Concrete Society

The Concrete Society of Southern Africa NPC (CSSA) is a non-profit, member-based organisation - a ‘community’ of like-minded professionals who keep themselves up-to-date with the latest technology and thinking in concrete-related matters. The society offers seminars, site visits, publications, student support, excellence awards, and creates business opportunities for its corporate members. The organisation was established in 1969, and celebrates its Golden Jubilee this year. Fifty years of service to the concrete, construction and greater built environment sectors through its imparting of knowledge in concrete technology and practice at regular events.

The society, which has four regional branches, is run primarily by volunteers but is ably supported by a small head office staff consisting of the CEO, administrator and membership and events Coordinator. Members (both individual and corporate)
join for many reasons but primarily, because of their passion and commitment to concrete and to network among other members from all parts of the industry. Consulting engineers, contractors, concrete producers, material suppliers, academics and students all play an active part in the success of this long-standing organisation.

The prestigious Concrete Society Fulton Awards are held every second year and are part of the recognition of and honouring excellence in concrete. These ‘Oscars’ of the concrete industry are awarded in different categories, and honour excellence in concrete design, innovation and construction.

The society is privileged to be a voluntary association with the Engineering Council
of South Africa (ECSA), which provides benefits to the many registered consulting engineers belonging to the society, by way of CPD points and discounts on their ECSA fees. It is also an international partner with the American Concrete Institute. For more info visit: www.concretesociety.co.za
