Compression glands suited to harsh environments

The nonmetallic Pratley Tufflon compression gland is chemical-resistant and manufactured from tough engineering plastic, which makes it ideal for the distribution of electricity, says industrial products and adhesives manufacturer Pratley MD Eldon Kruger.

Unlike ordinary polyvinyl chloride glands that can also be prone to ‘thread jumping’ the Tufflon compression gland is suited to use in harsh and rugged operating environments, he adds.

“It’s the ideal gland to use for appliances and instrumentation in a range of applications and industries, from municipal street lighting, sewerage and chemical plants to abattoirs and areas where corrosion could be a challenging factor.”

The glands form part of Pratley Electrical’s extensive electrical cable gland and junction box range for normal and hazardous locations, and are available in various sizes in black, grey and white.

The glands are South African Bureau of Standards-approved, and comply with SANS 60529 for an IP 68 rating.

“This rating means that the glands are totally waterproof and dust proof. These glands can safely be used in water, dust or in the rain, with no damage to electrical apparatus.”

Additionally, Pratley also features a highly equipped customer training centre that trains engineering students and advanced engineers from large companies, such as integrated chemicals company Sasol, while various mining houses are trained on the importance of correct cable termination and electrical product selection.
