Competition Tribunal has a new chairperson

The Competition Tribunal on Friday welcomed the appointment of its new chairperson, Mondo Mazwai, who has served as a tribunal member for more than six years.

Mazwai, who is the tribunal’s first black female chairperson, is succeeding Norman Manoim, who has completed two terms as chairperson and served a total of 20 years with the tribunal.

Manoim will be joining the Mandela Institute at the University of the Witwatersrand.

The Tribunal also announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa had appointed Thando Vilakazi as a part-time member.

Vilakazi is the executive director of the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development at the University of Johannesburg specialising in academic research, teaching and advice on competition policy and industrial development. Vilakazi is also currently an economist at Acacia Economics.

Yasmin Carrim, Andiswa Ndoni and Andreas Wessels were reappointed as tribunal members.
