28th June 2013

Electrical, control and instrumentation engineers and constructors Wade Walker, a wholly owned subsidiary of construction group Murray & Roberts, has embarked on a subcontract awarded by bulk materials handling solutions provider ELB Engineering at State-owned power utility Eskom’s Medupi coal-fired power station, in Limpopo.

The subcontract calls for electrical and instrumentation installation on nine substations and 54 coal and ash conveyors, varying in size from 100 m to 300 m and extending over about 11.5 km. This work includes cable racking, junction boxes, instrumentation and cabling.

For the subcontract, the Wade Walker team supplied specialist UVG instrumentation cable, which streams both video and data, as specified by Eskom, while the junction boxes are being constructed from stainless steel to accommodate the hazardous environment.

Wade Walker has served the African mining and industrial markets since its inception in 1981 and provides clients with a broad range of services in the electrical, control and instrumentation, engineering and constructors fields, serving the mining and minerals, water treatment, oil and gas, industrial, sustainable energy and power markets.
