Management strategy consultancy Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has appointed BCG MD and partner Thomas Kingombe as its South Africa Manufacturing and Supply Chain operations lead.

He joins the South African office from Copenhagen, Denmark, where he led several major transformation efforts in some of Europe's largest manufacturing and supply chains, increasingly with a view to delivering value via data.

“Manufacturing and supply chain are vital sectors for the economic development and social transformation of South Africa and Africa. Together, these sectors foster innovation, competitiveness, sustainability and resilience, and we believe that the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies like Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and robotics will be instrumental,” Kingombe says.

With more than 20 years of industrial and consulting experience, Kingombe is a certified lean practitioner, and Six Sigma black belt, with deep expertise in company improvement and efficiency, as well as process waste reduction.

His project experience is centred on operational transformation of product manufacturing organisations increasingly with a focus on Industry 4.0 tools and methodologies.

“We are pleased to welcome Thomas as a partner to our local management team. Our clients will benefit from his deep industry and functional expertise as we partner to unlock the full potential of their supply chains and manufacturing operations, creating value for their customers, shareholders, employees, and society,” says BCG South Africa MD, office leader and senior partner Jan Gildemeister.
