PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Bauxite miner Australian Bauxite is ramping up production to assist fertilizer production in Tasmania.

The ASX-listed company on Wednesday said that it has started the delivery of 800 t of its special fertilizer bauxite as part of an ongoing contract to regularly supply bauxite to a fertilizer production plant operated by Impact Fertilizers.

The bauxite delivery was required before April 3 to ensure sufficient stocks of Australian Bauxite’s product at the plant, which would have otherwise necessitated the curtailment of fertilizer production, affecting the plant’s 50 direct employees and its supply of fertilizer to the agricultural industry and interrupting Impact’s supply of a product used for fluoridation of Hobart’s water supply.

Australian Bauxite and its contractors are permitted to continue operations during the current restrictions placed in the state amid the Covid-19 pandemic, as the company made up an integral part of the supply chain.
